چکیده

Two methods of searching for periodicity in weighted time point series are applied to earlier major solar flare data during three decades (1956–1985). The results of this analysis are tested against new solar flare data during the four years 1989–1993. Active longitudes rotating with a constant synodic period of 22.d069± 0.d012 could explain the complete data set over both hemispheres. The nonuniform distribution of the flare activity with this period displays two active longitudes separated by 180◦, but also shows other detailed features. No significant periodicity is detected on the southern solar hemisphere, whereas active zones rotating with a constant synodic period of 26.d722± 0.d015 are present in the earlier and new data on the northern hemisphere. The main peculiarity is that two highly significant periodicities (22.d07/26.d72) are detected in the same data. The phenomena detected are interpreted as a signature of a long–lived nonaxisymmetric component of the solar magnetic field below the visible surface.

Solar Latitudinal Distribution of Solar Flares around the Sun and Their Association with Forbush Decreases during the Period of 1986 to 2003

Solar flare events of high importance were utilised to study solar latitudinal frequency distribution of the solar flares in northern and southern hemisphere for the solar cycle 22 to recent solar cycle 23. A statistical analysis was performed to obtain their relationship with sudden storm commencement (SSCs) and Forbush decrease events (Fd) of cosmic ray intensity. An 11-year cyclic variation ...

The Origin of the Solar Flare Waiting-Time Distribution.

It was recently pointed out that the distribution of times between solar flares (the flare waiting-time distribution) follows a power law for long waiting times. Based on 25 years of soft X-ray flares observed by Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite instruments, it is shown that (1) the waiting-time distribution of flares is consistent with a time-dependent Poisson process and (2) ...

Field–guided Proton Acceleration at Reconnecting X–points in Flares

An explicitly energy–conserving full orbit code CUEBIT, developed originally to describe energetic particle effects in laboratory fusion experiments, has been applied to the problem of proton acceleration in solar flares. The model fields are obtained from solutions of the linearised MHD equations for reconnecting modes at an X–type neutral point, with the additional ingredient of a longitudina...

Evolution of electron energy spectrum during solar flares

Particle acceleration by direct-current electric field in the current sheet has been extensively studied, in which an electric and a magnetic field are generally prescribed, and a power law distribution of the electron energy is obtained. Based on MHD numerical simulations of flares, this paper aims at investigating the time evolution of the electron energy spectrum during solar flares. It turn...
